In an application the sponsor (this is the person residing in the UK or British Citizen returning to UK who are residing and working overseas) are required to demonstrate:

The sponsor can be:

• Be a British citizen or
• Have settled in the UK (they have ‘indefinite leave to remain’ or proof of permanent residence) or
• Have refugee status or humanitarian protection in the UK

UK unmarried partner visa requirements further entail that the sponsor:

• From 11 April 2024, the UK Home Office has increased the minimum financial threshold for applications under the Unmarried Partner visa route, as well as the Spouse, Civil Partner, and Fiancé visa routes. The updated requirements are as follows:-
  • A minimum gross annual income of £29,000; or
  • Cash savings of £88,500, if the applicant is not relying on income.
• Applicants who initially applied as a partner before 11 April 2024 and are now seeking to extend their visa with the same partner will continue to be assessed under the previous financial requirement: –
  • £18,600 per year in gross income; or
  • £62,500 in cash savings, if relying solely on savings
• Can provide adequate accommodation in accordance with the UK housing space standards

Note: UK unmarried partner visa rules provide that if the applicant is in the UK with permission to work then their income can also be considered to meet the requirement. Savings held by the applicant can also be considered.

UK unmarried partner visa requirements require that the applicant:

• Meets the English language requirement.
• Has taken a TB Test (if they are from a country on the Home Office’s list of prescribed countries).
• Does not have any adverse immigration history (overstaying, breaching conditions, illegal entrant, using deception in an application)
• Does not fall for under the mandatory general grounds of refusal.

Both applicant and sponsor are required to prove that they:

• Are in a genuine and subsisting relationship or
• Have been living together in a relationship for at least 2 years when they apply
